Alaska's Aircraft
Airplanes, Seaplanes, Jets & Helicopters

Page 1, 2, 3

How many of you have ever needed a beaver to get to work? How about an otter? Some may have found the need to use a goose. If all this sounds strange then welcome to Alaska! All of the above are just some of the many aircraft used to get around this great state on a daily basis.

There are literally hundreds of flights a day transporting people to their employment sites. Be they biologists working at a remote lake, loggers whose camp lies deep in the forests, or forest service personnel working on trails and mapping the terrain. On top of floatplanes, like the above, there are also "amphibious" aircraft equipped with floats for water landings and wheels for landing at airstrips. Helicopters are also widely used, from fish and game agents tracking herds of animals, to engineers needing a better view of the land they are going to be operating in.

Aircraft travel in Southeast Alaska is as prevalent as auto travel in the "lower 48". Many places are inaccessible unless aircraft are used. These include lakes, glaciers, and even towns. So buckle up and prepare to view how Alaskans travel to work, to play, or just to get out and do a little sightseeing.
